Dear Jane,

I just wanted to thank you for putting on the Alzheimer's and memory loss awareness seminar on Thursday. I found it very informative and your personal account of your own experiences has prepared me, for what I and my family have to face.
I recognize some of myself in you and know that I am going to be the one that has the primary role in supporting my dad, my mum and brother and sister.
I am willing and able to take on this role and guess my social work training has given me good preparation for this. What sticks in my mind from your presentation is the importance of looking after myself and I have a few strategies for this (running and growing veg on my allotment - the best therapy ever!). I know it's not going to be easy.
I also want to thank you for taking the time to speak with me in the break. You personal input touched a note that no website could match and I will heed your advice. I would love to read your book of your experiences. Has this been published yet?
As for what next, I have a plan and it will involve drawing on the input of my brother and sister as I will need to share the burden. I WILL get my dad to the doctors and your tips on using the appropriate language will help here. It may seem like I'm putting things off but I'm going to make sure my mum and dad have a great (Alzheimer's free) Christmas first and then face reality in January.
